Coach Kelly Eastment is planning a busy day at the West Worthing club in West Sussex, England.
Her World Squash Day schedule begins with a Mini Squash session for under-nines, followed by a junior group (ages nine to 17), a Squash 101 session for beginners or casual players, a racketball (squash 57) introductory class, followed by two hours of doubles.
Kelly said: “I have been the Head Squash Coach at West Worthing for the past two and a half years. We run numerous tournaments throughout the year from juniors, racketball / Squash57, squash one-day graded events, doubles and we hosted the Masters Regional event at the start of the year.
“We have four men’s teams, one ladies team, two junior teams, nine internal squash leagues and four internal racketball / Squash57 leagues with more and more members joining and looking at joining the teams/leagues. We run weekly classes for drills, racketball / Squash57, squash doubles and club nights.
“The club has six squash courts, one being a glass-backed court with seating area. We recently ran a charity fundraiser for Cancer Research UK where we had Daryl Selby and Richie Fallows playing in an exhibition match and managed to raised more than £2,000 over the weekend.”
Hats off to Kelly for providing such an enormous boost of energy to the club and for arranging what promises to be a brilliant and rewarding programme of activities on World Squash Day.
NOTE: We would be pleased to hear from other clubs and coaches on their plans for World Squash Day.
